As we continue our season of Stewardship Renewal of Treasure, please know there are 18 second collections required by the Archdiocese of Denver. We meet this requirement administratively by taking a historic amount from the charity account to satisfy this obligation. Out of every ten dollars we give to the collection; one dollar, a tithe, goes to the charity account. Please calculate what needs to be added to our regular Sunday contribution to satisfy this obligation. Please also calculate the money given to fundraisers that we have replaced by the charity account. (But, please continue to be generous to the school’s Golf Tournament and Gala!) This means that we will not nickel and dime the parishioners so that our giving will be Eucharistic.
The parish will in turn walk the talk by tithing from the tithe, because ten percent of the collection goes to the charity account. All of the children’s collection (children’s envelops) goes to charity. We will routinely publish in the bulletin what has been given and to whom. This way we are in solidarity with the poor if we are participating in the collection. In a much bigger picture we will understand the spiritual meaning of money. The more we convert our understanding of material wealth we gain in our appreciation of the wealth that lasts forever. Remember, we have a need to give before giving to a need. God cannot be outdone in generosity.
