“The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Matthew 9:37
Jesus did not just tell his disciples to pray for” “laborers” in his vineyard, he also immediately “called to himself his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every infirmity.” The Catholic Church has been very faithful in praying for vocations, and vocations directors abound in dioceses and religious orders and congregations. We are still experiencing, however, a shortage of priests and religious. The Serra Club has given us another way to promote vocations, and it is called, “Called by Name.” This is exactly what Jesus did. He actually identified and called his disciples by name. We cannot beat that model. Please come identify someone whom you think might have a vocation to the priesthood or religious life, and then nominate him or her this weekend.
Those nominated will receive a letter from Fr. Andrew to congratulate them for your nomination and to ask them to pray for vocation for themselves and for others.
