Years ago when I was working with children, I remember this one boy who said to me, “You’re not the boss of me.” And I looked him square in the eye and said, “Oh yes I am! You just don’t like it. ”
This weekend is the Solemnity of Christ the King. Unlike that boy, God is the boss of us. Jesus is our King. We probably all have that little voice inside of us that is like that boy. It is our struggle with authority and most everyone has it. Spiritually we call it pride or self-centeredness. Let us believed that God is the boss of us. Jesus, you are our King!
While I was on my priest retreat I took with me the 57 prayer request cards that the parishioners return to us. I prayed with each one saying a prayer I learned from Saint Faustina: “O Blood and Water which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a font of Mercy for us, I trust in you.” Of couse, I kept all the parish in my prayers.
